GAME
Finish on a 3v3 game with 2 ways to score, either by a goal or making 3 passes to encourage the sharp passing from the entire session
PROGRESSION
A continuous drill relavant to the previous drills but with more components to consider. As before teh group of 3 are looking to keep the ball until the forward pass is on but against 2 defenders it makes it difficult. See animation for explanation/rotations when the forward pass is made
Initially:
-defenders can only intercept not tackle
-the 3 possession players can make small movements to look for the ball but the target player (whoever that is at the time) must be standing right in front of their cone
Coaching considerations:
First touch
Scanning
Transition to defend, get narrow
Defending, pressure cover
Pressing together
Counter pressing
Transition to goal win winning the ball
DEVELOPMENT
Set up as befre but the player who plays the first pass then defends 3v1 with the team of 3 having to hold their shap in 1 half of the playing area. This will encourage them moving it quickly from side to side to try and find that forward pass. Patients encouraged where needed.
If the defender wins the ball they can score in the net situated behind the central player.
Progression: On giving the ball away the 3 players in possession can quickly narrow in to try and win it back and if they do get their shape again quickly.
The final pass must be played to within the width of the mini goal or 2 cones, the player waiting cannot make side to side movements as that will defeat the purpose of the central split pass we are trying to create
INTRODUCTION
Passing pattern working on touch and pass and the quality of the technique.
The communicator in the drill decides whether the final ball is played forward or bounced back to him/her to play that pass
After a lot of repitition change the direction of the drill
With the exception of the bounce back option all passes should be 2 touch. Touch to make the ball stick then release early with the next touch
GAME PHASE
Timing Forward Runs
The ball is played into a 5v5 with the passing player (holding midfielder) then joining the attack at the same time as a recovering midfielder for the other team. On winning the ball encourage the defending team to play into one of the small goals or pass to the holding midfielder of the other team to quickly transition the drill to start again.
Coaching:
-Movements to create space for runs in behind
-Wide players keeping their width to allow space between the back 4
-Front 3 reading each others movements - if wide player comes in the central player must now provide width
Progression:
-Free play
DEVELOPMENT PHASE 2
Timing Forward Runs
5v5 in the middle replicating the front 3 and 2 midfielders behind, you can introduce the GK playing as the holding mid to play back to if you want to add that as a progression that you can use the GK in your build up.
The aim is to play a player though on goal (onside, use the line or just the last defender as more game like)
DEVELOPMENT PHASE 1
Timing Forward Runs
3v3 plus two wide players and your goalkeeper
Adaptations to this exercise:
-3 passes before you can play forward
-Through ball must be played by a wide player
-Or through ball can be played by anyone
-One touch to finish after through ball
-If you win the ball from the other team you can play forward immediately
-Progress to defenders can recover back to stop the goal
-Progress to the offside line becomes the last defender and not the line to make it more game realistic
INTRO
Timing Forward Runs
Coaching:
-Check away from the space you are looking to attack, always scan to be aware of the defender and where he/she is looking
-Turn feet and body early to face forward
-Indicate where you want the ball to be played with hand signals
-Time run to receive the ball without having to slow down
Progression:
-Once the ball is played add pressure from behind to ensure shots are taken early
-Both teams tace to score first to improve speed of play
-When playing the forward pass between the full back and centre back, once the passer touches the ball allow the full back to then come alive and try and stop the through ball
TEAM RACE SWITCH TO 1V1
Race: Switch of play then 1v1 to goal. first team to score wins, if the defender can win the ball and drive forward to score a goal his team get an additional point
