defending – 4. DEFEND COUNTER ATTACKS

There are hundred of ways to challenge your defenders in counter attacks. I chose to devise a little different way because we always have to look to break boredom. In this drill, the field is designed to allow 2 defenders of each team defend when their inverted goal is under attack. The starting position of defenders is to force them run, simulating counter attacks after corner kicks in real games. The goal is inverted to force different body moves for the forwards, thus forcing defenders to challenge turns, feints, sprints… If the defenders successfully win the ball, they will build up counter attack for their mates and now the turn for the opponents’ defenders. If the forwards score, the coach passes forcing another counter attack for the opposition now and so on.
