Exercise: Counter-attack with defensive recovery

Goals:

Defense:

– Delay opponent’s counter-attack in order to allow the defense to recover the formation and reorganize the defense.

Attack:

– Quick definition of the counter-attack and improvement in the assist and shooting.

Development

Three strikers (players of the attacking team) will be placed in the halfway line: one in the center and one in each side. Another striker (the fourth) will be with the three defenders, behind the end line. Another  two defenders will start from the other half.

A player will perform a long pass to one of the three strikers in the halfway line. At the moment of the kick, all the players placed in the end line are allowed to participate in the game. Then, the three strikers in the midfield must quickly get close to the goal, the other striker must participate in order to be the fourth man in the attack and the defenders must recover the ball or delay the counter-attack, so the other two defenders will have time to return and help their teammates. Those last defenders can only return after the first pass made by the one of the three strikers that started from the halfway line.

The game should not last more than 10 to 15 seconds.
