EXERCISE 3

small sided game with both teams given the task of scoring in and protecting 2 goals.

Attacking, play with width and play quick - spread the opposition to get success in the middle of the park and score a goal

Defense, transition quick to defend central goals and keep attackers out wide

EXERCISE 2

We pregress to a 2v2 set up that allows players to work on 2v2 defending then 2v2 attacking. Stress the defenders role is to delay and a bonus is to win the ball and play forward. The attackers role is to play quick and make the correct decisions.

2 v 2 starts on coaches whistle and only lasts 30 seconds (depends on ability level and age) but once allocated time limit is done the 2v2 is over and players sprint to go again

30 second games, 10 second break, continuesly

EXERCISE 1

A set up to give you plenty to coach with young players. With a delayed defender you can coach:

- Attackers use wide and look to play quick and score early either shooting or passing to player in a better position

- Defenders, coach 1v2 defending so showing the player away from his team mate and the goal and trying to close space and narrow in at an angle to create a 1v1 or slow the play down to let your team mate get back

GAME

Free play in areas as before and coach what you see/need to address in the game

COMP 2

Each team has a GK, 4 defenders and 4 attackers.

The game is an open game with some rules. In possession you can create 2v1s in wide areas as a player in the defensive 4 and a player in the attacking 4 can enter the channels. When your team does not have the ball only a player from the defensive 4 can come into the channel to defend.

This will create oppertunities for the ball in the box to work on defending crosses.

Progression: A defensive player can come up centrally to attack the ball and create a overload in the box, putting on more focus of the defenders marking space, defending the width of the goal and reacting quickly to second balls

COMP 1

The aim here is to bed in the 2 centre backs defending a cross.

The ball starts wide with a pass into a 2v1 in the channel and the two trying to cross to 1 striker. Defenders deal with the cross and there is a target player (show in between cones but can move to wider areas once play is alive) who they can aim to hit if they deal with the cross and can then play out. If the wide defender who is attempting to stop the cross wins the ball they can also hit this target player.

Rotations should be pretty simple as every role is in twos. Work for a period of time as the feeder, then become the 2v1, then become defender trying to swap the cross, then the centre backs, then the target players. Every station has 2 players. Or keep it position specific to work with your team

Progression:

The feeder on opposite side comes in to create 2v2 in the box
