START EASY

One of the main traits a winning football team must have is the ability to re organize when lose the ball. It usually means going back to the line up formation. To go back to your starting position is usually a mission for the defenders. In higher levels, we see more teams develop high pressure against the opponents' players by their forwards and some midfield players busy with the marking. Anyway, these drills will introduce the youngsters to re organizing back after losing the ball.

In this simple drill, the players will go back to their zones after delivering the ball to the their mate at the other side. The play starts with a pass by the coach in the middle zone. The player who receives the ball passes back to the number 2. Now players are allowed to pass the middle line under mild pressure by their opponents. Once they deliver the ball, they should move back, touch the pole, then to their starting positions. The opponents now start their turn. After some turns, add more pressure to the drill by setting seconds to successfully deliver the ball to their target, some seconds to re organize, and apply higher pressure by opponents.


ANIMATION 4

The number 10 player, if with the required ability, can be a part of goal scoring with a header. In this drill, more advanced and demanding skills are added. The drill starts in a box up in the field where both number 10 players compete for the ball. The winning player’s team line to become the team in possession and the other’s become the defending team. The neutral number 9 makes the movement to creating the angle and the space for number 10 to assist him. The first wave done, now number 10 and under the pressure of the opponent’s number 10 gets into one of the right or left boxes, whichever more open for him. He receives a pass by the side player, 1v1 situation with the marking player. Now, he should make a decision, pass to a mate or shoot. The final wave is receiving a cross from the other side and try to head the ball. The 3 waves done, now the core of most of the drill I devise, TRANSITION.


PROGRESSION 2

In this drill, the middle zone is for both number 10s to compete for a coming pass. The player who wins the ball should keep possession, while being under pressure by the opponent. His mates move up, then the ball holder should decide where to pass. He passes and his mates finish the attack. Now he receives a ball from out side to strike. Now, a pass is made to the other number 10 forci transition.


PROGRESSION

Progression here is limiting the options of number 10 while he has the ball. The target player om the other end could go right or left gate, while number 10 in his zone must deliver. The other number 10 while not in possession, presses the defenders on build up, presses the opponent in number 10 zone. After successful delivery, the opponents start new attack forcing transition for both teams.


NUMBER 10

Number 10 is usually a team's play maker. In many teams, he also takes the responsibiltiy of scoring goals, and pressing on the defenders while opponents building up from the back. In this drill, the number 10 gets into the middle zone, and passes to one player at the gates while being under the pressure of number 4. After that, the opponents start their build up from the back and the number 10 takes the responsibility of pressing the defenders. Meanwhile, the number 10 of the next team start the same role.


NUMBER 4

A drill focusing on number 4 here who is considered as box to box midfielder. The drill here is a build up, support, assist with a long through. When the coach passes to one goal keeper, the keeper's team line up inside the box. While both 4s start the play. Number 4 moves back to start an attack while being pressed by the opponent's number 4. He receives the ball while his opponent at his back and he is facing his goal keeper. He should turn, then pass into the rondo zone. Once the ball moved up, the opponent's number 4 moves back helping his mates in defense. While the other 4 moves in to support. Number 10 in this drill got the ball, tries to attack but faces 2 defenders, he moves it back to his 4 mate, who makes a long through pass and his team finish the attack.


PROGRESSION 3

In this 2v2 multi task game, the defenders will have to force forwards out. They will try to delay them with high pressure but jo tackle. When the first attack is done, the coach sends another ball inside where defenders will have to make a safe clear tackle, or interception and take the ball out.


PROGRESSION 2

Defenders will have to deal with different tasks every game. Yet they might have to deal with different tasks in one attack. In this drill, defenders will have to defend open play, then crosses. Inbetween, they will chase the forwards to their next target. Then, next team start their turn.


PPROGRESSION 1

A multiple-task drill for defenders. They will start 5v4 open play then a 1v2 counter attack situation. In the first flow, they will have to stop forwards from reaching the zone beyond the red cone. When the attack is finished, 2 pre assigned defenders go and stop the counter attack lead by 9. After that, the 3rd flow is stopped by the other 2 defenders.


ANIMATION 5

This drill can be the end of full backs' session. Less load on the full backs physically. They now should loft the ball to the player running forward in 2 successive attempts for two successive breaks.
